Mamma wa Buganda Nnabagareka, Prince Wasswa, Prince Jjunju and other family members attended Owek Dr Twaha Kaawaase's thank giving prayers as Ssabasajja Kabaka selected him as 2nd Deputy Katikkiro. The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga acknowledged Owek Dr Kaawaase's loyal services.
Paresh Ruparelia National Academy
On Sunday 7 February, HE Edward Kiwanuka Ssekendi, the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, officially opened Paresh Ruparelia National Academy and laid stones for Cradle of Life Hospital Project and African Graduate Entrepreneurship Institute at Nanziga, 24 km off Kampala on Masaka Road. The project was initiated by the Hon Rev Dr Hamlet Kasushenga. HE Ssekendi, on behalf of the government, welcomed the efforts and contributions; Hon Dr Rajni Tailor welcomed on behalf of the Indian Community; Omuk Navtam Gosai welcomed on behalf of the Buganda Kingdom, Dr Sudhir Ruparelia said his family have and will continue to support local projects and Mr Babubhai Ruparelia said this was personal sentiment on loss of his son and grand daughter and want to bring greater benefits to the local community.
Iran 'to lease land in East Africa'
BBC: Now that sanctions have been lifted from Iran, its government is planning to lease large tracts of land in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania for large-scale farming of rice, wheat and corn, Iran's ambassador to Kenya has told privately-owned newspaper The East African.
Part of the crops grown will be for the local market and part for export to Iran, the paper reports.
The East African Community (EAC) exports unprocessed tea, coffee and meat to Iran, while it imports oil products, machinery and telecommunication equipment.
